Agora Education: Fuel for Independent Minds

Every moment in a student’s life matters—not only as preparation for the future, but as a moment lived. Education should inspire, not bore. It should help students to become, with each moment, more the drivers and the authors of their own lives. It should be imbued, top to bottom, with personal meaning. Education should not just productively occupy time: it should enrich it and make it good.

Through Agora Education, I offer customized one-on-one tutoring and small-group classes, typically in writing, history, and literature.

In tutoring, I play the long game: while my students and I often work toward short-term goals, those goals are always designed and approached with an eye on the path toward independence. Sometimes this means support in catching up, and in these cases, I’m proudest when I work myself quickly out of a job. Other times, it means adding ongoing challenge and enrichment to guide a student toward their greatest potential.

My classes are designed for students who want to explore big ideas, challenge assumptions, and develop the skills to think clearly and express themselves with well-earned confidence.

I also offer academic coaching for students who want support in time management, organization, and prioritization, so they can more consciously build the life they want to live.
